cheapest, chicest, outfit ever! i swear!

You better sit down. Seriously. Are you sitting down?

After seeing so many fabulous peeps, sporting the Tucker for Target dress, I had to have it. Problem? It's been over a year or more, since Target has had this dress. I searched ebay and it came up way more than I'd pay for it.

I stopped by a local Target (one of the 3 around me) and thumbed through the clearance racks...as I always do, since that's where I buy my clothes from! Karma was on my side that day! I found my size, in the Tucker dress, for....wait for it...$9.98. Originally $39.99.

I'll wait for your to catch your breath...You back with us?

I then wandered over to the clearance shoe section, you never know.

There I found one pair of cognac peep toe heels with a clearance sticker of $5.80. It was peeled off a bit, so I took my chances and hit the checkout. My shopping trip was one BIG success.

My advice....think about those items you REALLY want, and you never know, you just might get what you want...at the price you LOVE!

outfit low down:
dress (target): 9.98
shoes (target): 5.80
purse (thrift): 6.99
belt (Burlington): 7.99
necklace(forever 21): 6.80
outfit total: 37.56

Conclusion? My whole outfit, with purse, and accessories was less than the original price of the dress. Me=winning!
and here is my HANDSOME hubs and I at dinner for a dear friend's thirtieth birthday. He looks good; even though he says this dress looks like an old lady dress. My response? I can rock anything.

confession: part II

First off, I almost threw in the towel with the challenge last night. I have seen so much inspiration from you ladies, that I'm so excited to incorporate all the ideas with all of my clothes. My husband encouraged me...I know right?! {hugs}
Fine. But I did tell him that I was switching out the black boots for the red wedges. He was ok with that!

Secondly, I purchased two more items of clothing. From this challenge, I realized I have plenty of clothes. But I also realized there were a few staples I needed: more skirts. I knew I needed a red skirt and I really wanted a pink/fushia skirt like Kendi's. I hit up 2 separate thrift stores, I scored a New York & Company red skirt for $1.00, orginally $4.00 but it was 75% off, and then a fushia pencil skirt for $3.49 @ goodwill.

So, this month I spent $2.23 (with a $10 off certificate) on this shirt, a $1.00 for a red skirt and $3.49 for a fushia pencil skirt. Lydia Marie said if I spent less than $10.00 on clothes, then it didn't count. So technically I have about $3.00 left to spend. :-P I'm going with her thinking.

day 18: caught up

Whew, I'm caught up on posting my outfits from the weekend.

We decided since we both have tomorrow off, that we would take the hour and half drive to visit his parents. I'm running low on comfy cute outfits, so this is what you get today. The purple tunic you've seen many times, but this time changed up with an OLD polka dot scarf and running leggings-since I'm going to run later, kill two birds with one stone right?!

So nothing too exciting again.

Photo Warning: hair wet + tired eyes= the following picture

Chic for Cheap: I did see these cute bow necklaces some ladies were sporting from Ann Taylor Loft, so I busted out this scarf and made my own bow necklace slash scarf.

day 14 one more day

....of being around children. I need a break. We have a staff development day on Friday, so tomorrow is the last day of the week with students. Thank goodness.I get a 3 day weekend to recoop so I can be a better teacher next week.

Now that was a mouth full wasn't it.

Onto why you probably checked this post...

poor photo. It was taken after a 10 hour work day at school and two trips to two different grocery stores trying to find zucchini. Positive note? My husband took it without any complaints.

oh and that belt? another buck fifty thrift store score!

confession.

JCPenney sent me a ten dollar "gift card" off a 10 dollar purchase. I knew I wanted and honestly, need a black and white striped shirt. I found one online for 12.99 on sale. With my 10 dollars off, it would be around 2 bucks.
I went in with my eye blockers on, heading straight to that specific shirt and trying not to notice any of the other gorgeous clothes. I have no control when it comes to clearance racks. Something inside of me snaps and I'm sucked in. I found a red/black and plaid button shirt for 6 bucks. I carried it around for about 15 minutes, along with my striped shirt I had located in the first 2 seconds of entering the store.
I tried to justify it all I could, but the logical side of my brain won and I put the other shirt back.
I did break on this challenge, with spending that 2 dollars on the shirt, but I really don't count that. I knew I needed that shirt and I got an amazing deal on it.
So I didn't cheat did I? Oh whatever, I know I cheated. But oh well.

day 9 of 30: a little bit refined

We had an EARLY staff meeting this morning, in which, people from the superintendent's cabinet would be in attendance, to help us celebrate our student and staff successes. So, with a little extra polish, this outfit was fit for a professional affair!
Wow that was a mouthful wasn't it!

And may I add, that our 3rd-5th grade has seen an increase of 5 months in math and reading in only 4 months of school. My kids are making slow gains, but they are making GAINS.

Chic for Cheap: another thrift store belt for $1.48.

day 8 of 30: the cool kid

It is really true that kids pick up on things you say and do, but noticing and commenting on your choice of tights you wore? I really stepped out of my comfort zone on this outfit. I had bought these tights at Kohl's on clearance for 2 bucks. {I got the blue ones too} I just could never bring myself to bust them out. But today was the day my friend! As I walked my kids to and from specials, I heard other girls in other classes saying sweet things to me. Maybe I should wear colored tights more often!

I really did feel like the cool kid at school today, all the popular girls noticing what I was wearing. :-)

(the tights really do look better in person, and do match my scarf really well. Even though it seems my pasty white knee caps are very well defined in those tights.)

PS- this gorgeous scarf was a gift from my now husband, then boyfriend when he went to India for 3 weeks for his job!

day 6 of 30

It seemed that about 8 teachers got the memo about wearing green today! I guess people are wanting it to be spring already!

I jazzed up my green sweater with my handmade pleated scarf.

Chic for Cheap: And who can beat the price of the cardi...on clearance at target for 10 bucks!
And the fabric for the scarf came from the thrift store...so the scarf cost me about a buck!

oh and one more thing...

And I'm not sure how I was given the Stylish Blogger Award from Books and Looks,
but here it goes!

Some rules that come with this award: You're supposed to share seven things about yourself and share the award with a few recently-discovered bloggers.

1. I hate those little stickers that come on fruit. They totally gross me out and I am just now able to peel them off myself. I used to have to have my mom take them off my fruit up until I got married!
2. I'm currently training for my first 5K. I'm about to start Week 5 of my 9 week training.
3. I fall for blue eyes; look at my husband, my pooch and even his cat has blue eyes (except I am not as fond of the cat.)
4. I'm obsessed with cardigans and boots.
5. We had our wedding reception at an arcade center. As our guest gift, they received a 10 dollar play card.
6. I'm currently working on my master's in administration...but have no intentions on ever being a principal. After my master's, I will be working on a specialists degree in superintendency, and really have intentions on being a superintendent.
7. Middle school was my favorite time in school, and I would love to teach 6th grade some day!

So  now I get to award some stylish ladies!

shoe update. {yes it's that important.}

If you read my previous post of the flowers vs. shoes, you will know that I was struggling with commitment. I was unsure to go with red or purple or yellow UO pumps, since I couldn't go with all, I had to choose. Well, things kinda worked out well for me.
If you use the code LOVEIT at UO, you save fifteen off seventy-five.

Follow me here with a little math lesson:
option one: Red pumps= $49.99 + tax + $10.00 shipping: $62.00.
option two: Red canvas wedges= {on sale} $29.99 + Grape pumps $49.99 + shipping $10.00 + tax -{minus} $15.00= $76.00. Makes since to spend what... 15 more and get another pair of shoes right? Right. So thank you wonderful hubby for the TWO pairs of gorgeous shoes, and thank you UO for the sale and discount.

day 5 of 30

I couldn't waste another weekend day wearing only sweats, so I busted out a 30 for 30 outfit to do my weekly fancy shopping. ok ok, to do my walmart and sams shopping.

who am I kidding anyway...I never do fancy shopping; the extent of my fancy shopping is buying steve madden shoes at t.j.maxx.

As for the Super Bowl, I'm rooting for the Packers. If you cared to know!

Chic on the Cheap- scored this steel gray purse at Gordman's for 6 bucks! I had wanted a gray one after seeing a London Fog on at Sam's, but went back and it was gone. This little darling was the only one left in the store, and it was on clearance for 10 bucks, with an additional 33% off. Can we use some football terminology? SCORE!

well it looks like something

I found this fabric on clearance at Joann's and had visions of it being a great skirt! Only problem? I've never made anything in my life before! The fabric was sheer, so on top of making a skirt, I had to figure out to sew in a lining too.

With the help of...Freshly Picked I was able to figure it out.

Now for the finished product's debut...

{sorry for no head...no one would want to see what's going on with my face and hair!}

What do you think?

day 4 of 30

So this is what it feels like to get dressed and actually see people! It was back to work for us today...and honestly, I wish they would have canceled...the kids were crazy.
I love Fridays for 2 reasons: 1) it's Friday in general and 2) it's free jeans day.

Chic for Cheap-In love with my new belt... thirfted for $1.48!

My pretty pooch got in on the action this morning!

day 3 of 30

So this is what real clothing feels like?! I am actually not planning on going any where....but wanted to remember what it felt like to wear something other than hoodies and sweat pants!

Drum roll please.....

3 plus 4 plus 4 plus $1 Store scarf turned eternity scarf= day 3 of 30!

Forgive me and my horrible attempt at a photo shoot. All I had was my handy self timer and even if I had my handy husband home I'm sure he'd refuse to do it! For some reason he hates taking pictures and hates even more being in them!

DIY: To do the scarf cut the fringe off both ends, turn wrong sides facing eachother and sew! I did a zig zag stitch. I think it took maybe 45 seconds, seriously.
